One of my great hobbies is the 7th art. Cinema is one of the artistic disciplines that most excites and inspires me. Throughout the history of cinema, many films have sought not only to entertain, but also to offer a profound reflection on life, humanity and our actions as individuals and society. Here are some of the films that have inspired me the most, and that can motivate us to make our world a better place.
Chain of Favors (2000)
Directed by Mimi Leder, Chain of Favors tells the story of a young man who creates a school project to change the world through selfless acts. The premise of “paying back three people with good deeds” reminds us of the transformative power of small actions and how kindness can multiply.
Life is Beautiful (1997)
This masterpiece by Roberto Benigni shows us the human capacity to find beauty and love even in the midst of the worst circumstances. The story of a father who uses his creativity and sense of humor to protect his son during the Holocaust leaves us with a profound message of resilience, love and sacrifice.
Invictus (2009)
Under the direction of Clint Eastwood, Invictus tells the story of how Nelson Mandela, newly appointed president of South Africa, uses rugby to unite a divided country. This film is a reminder of the power of compassionate leadership, reconciliation and unity to overcome even the deepest divisions.
The Pursuit of Happyness (2006)
Starring Will Smith, this inspirational film tells the true story of Chris Gardner, a man who struggles to provide for his son and make it through adversity. The film teaches us the value of perseverance, determination and the importance of never giving up in the pursuit of our dreams.
Forrest Gump (1994)
With an iconic performance by Tom Hanks, Forrest Gump shows us the life of a seemingly ordinary man with an exceptional heart. The film inspires us to see life with disarming simplicity and teaches us how kindness, honesty and innocence can be powerful virtues.
Into the Wild (2007)
Based on a true story and directed by Sean Penn, this film tells the story of Christopher McCandless, a young man who renounces his comfortable life to explore his sense of freedom and connection with nature. It invites us to reflect on materialism, the true meaning of happiness and the importance of living authentically.
The Dead Poets Club (1989)
Directed by Peter Weir, it presents the story of an unconventional teacher who inspires his students to think for themselves and live life to the fullest. The film reminds us of the importance of questioning established norms and the ability of each individual to positively impact the lives of others.
An Extraordinary Adventure (2012)
Directed by Ang Lee, An Extraordinary Adventure is a story of survival, faith and connection to the natural world. The film follows a young boy who finds himself adrift in the ocean alongside a Bengal tiger and offers profound reflections on resilience, spirituality and coexistence.
The Boy Who Tamed the Wind (2019)
Based on the true story of William Kamkwamba, a young boy from Malawi who builds a windmill to save his family and community from drought. This film, directed by Chiwetel Ejiofor, is a testament to the power of innovation, education and determination to bring about meaningful change in communities.
The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938)
Although many know Robin Hood as a fictional hero, the 1938 version, starring Errol Flynn, stands out for its focus on social justice and the fight against oppression. This film, beyond its action scenes, invites us to reflect on the value of solidarity and the defense of the most vulnerable.
Cinema, with its ability to touch our emotions and expand our vision of the world, is a powerful tool to inspire change. These films invite us to reflect on our actions and challenge us to be better, to live with empathy and to seek ways to make this world a more just and compassionate place. Just as the characters in these stories face challenges and succeed, we too can find inspiration to be agents of change in our own lives and in our society.
It’s time for you to be the star of your own movie, helping to make our world a better place.
